Golden State Warriors (2) vs. San Antonio Spurs (7) Preview

The Warriors vs. the Spurs round II. Who would have thought that last year's WCF would happen again in the first-round of the playoffs? The Spurs finished as the 7 seed and did not win 50 games. That is the first time in around 20 years that San Antonio has less than 50 wins (despite a shortened season where there were only 50 games played). Both teams missing perennial all-stars in Kawhi Leonard and Steph Curry.

No one expected the Spurs to be here at the start of the season. No one expected low maintenance superstar Kawhi Leonard to have the crazy, bizarre situation that he did, playing less than 10 games. The rift between Spurs and Kawhi grew to something we never imagined. The future with one of the games brightest young stars, a future MVP and defensive force looks bleak in San Antonio. Another thing no one saw coming, is the resurgence of LaMarcus Aldridge. As becoming the number one option again, he has looked far more effective and more concern. He has really shown up this season and frankly saved the Spurs' season by getting them a playoff appearance. Now can he rebound against last years' WCF against the Dubs where Draymond Green was just all over him? It'll be a good matchup between LA and Green. The role players stepped up for the Spurs like they always do and delivered them to the playoffs.

The Warriors didn't have the best of seasons. Obviously, the elephant in the room is the injury suffered by their leader and best player (in my opinion) Steph Curry. Steph is no doubt the Warriors most valuable player as he changes everything when he's on the floor. The Dubs play a faster pace, the spacing is better, the ball movement is better with Curry on the floor. Curry is the difference from any other contender and being an all-time great team. On top of the Curry injury, the Dubs just did not care this year. Multiple ejections for Kevin Durant and Draymond Green. No defensive urgency showed all throughout the season. The Warriors believe they are good enough to flip a switch and magically become an elite squad. They sure have the talent but can they correct all their season mistakes?

Even though Curry is out, I think the Dubs will make quick work of the Spurs. Yes, the Spurs have a great defense and the best coach in the entire league. The Warriors have three all-stars and a hell of a system. The Spurs just don't have the offensive power to compete with the Dubs.

Warriors get the gentle man sweep and finish the series in 5 games.
